What is Home Stretch?  Home Stretch is a 1-day event that takes place just before the National Board portfolio is due, when candidates are getting ready to focus their attention on final revisions for Component Two and prepare for Component One. Home Stretch consists of two parts:

  • Component One Preparation: In a small like-cert area group candidates will explore the SRI section, the CRI prompts and released items.

  • Component Two Feedback: Small like-certificate groups will meet with one NBCT Facilitator to read and provide standards-based feedback on the Written Commentary using a protocol specially designed for use at WEA Home Stretch events.

Home Stretch Is…

Home Stretch Is Not…

  • IS an opportunity to receive feedback from peers based on evidence that is present or absent from your Written Commentary for Component Two.

  • IS an opportunity to critically analyze other candidate’s Written Commentary using a standards based rubric

  • IS the opportunity to learn about the Component One procedure and practice the released items from your certificate area

  • IS the opportunity to network with candidates and an NBCT facilitator in your certificate area

  • IS sponsored and developed by Washington Education Association

  • IS NOT the place to be told what you must add or delete from your Component Two Written Commentary. This is your process. What you do with the feedback is up to YOU!

  • IS NOT the opportunity to have others read your work, then go home without providing feedback to others.

  • IS NOT an opportunity to learn “what questions are on the test." Facilitators and candidates will follow the ethical guidelines of NBPTS

  • IS NOT a replacement for cohort involvement.  It is a complement to the work you are doing with your group.

  • IS NOT an event you should miss!  See the support WEA has created for YOU.

Information about registration for the spring Home Stretch events can also be found on the

WEA Professional Development Network website.

To run each seminar we require at least 25 registrants. If there are insufficient numbers, we will fully reimburse registrations that have been submitted. Course registration will close if a given event reaches capacity.

To register for Home Stretch you will need your WEA membership number information (found on your WEA membership card or by emailing This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it ). If you are unable to locate your number please register without it and we will verify your membership at a later date.

You will also need to tell us if your work location qualifies as a Challenging and/or Title I school. If you are unsure of the status of your school, please Click Here to see the current list of Challenging and/or Title I schools in Washington state.

Cost: The projected seminar fee for WEA members is $50.00 for a full day and $30.00 for a half day, and will include registration, training materials, meals/snacks and up to 6 Clock Hours. Candidates can pay securely online by credit or debit card, and there is an additional payment option if your district or association is paying for part or all of your fee. Participants are responsible for their own transportation and any applicable lodging. Non-members are welcome to attend on a space available basis; the cost for non-members is $150.00 for the full day and $100.00 for a half day.

Financial Aid: WEA members who have a financial need may apply for scholarship assistance. If you apply you will be asked to supply the name of your school or work location, and to tell us if it is designated as a 2014-15 Challenging and/or Title I school. To determine if your work location has one or both of these designations please Click Here to see a list of current Challenging and Title I schools.

Please note that scholarships are intended for WEA members with a demonstrated financial need who do not have additional support from their schools, districts or associations. It is only under very unique circumstances that we will award a scholarship covering the full registration amount; most scholarships are partial grants and recipients will still be expected to personally pay some portion of the registration fee.

If you are applying for financial assistance with your Home Stretch fee, please either wait for your scholarship determination before registering for the seminar, or select the "Pay by Check" option when registering for your Home Stretch session as we are unable to issue partial refunds to those who receive a grant award but have already paid with a credit card. If you have a demonstrable need for financial assistance, please Click Here to apply for a scholarship to attend the WEA Home Stretch seminar.
